Charleston Farmhouse
In 1916 the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant moved to Charleston with their unconventional household and began to transform the old farmhouse, decorating walls, doors, furniture, textiles and ceramics, and filling the rooms with work by their friends and contemporaries, creating a rural haven for the group of artists, writers and intellectuals known as Bloomsbury.
The walled garden compliments the house with mosaics, sculptures, ponds and vibrant flowerbeds. The shop has a varied collection of ceramics, clothing and accessories, the gallery shows a programme of free exhibitions and the Outer Studio Café provides light refreshment.
Two for one adult entry with a Downlander ticket.
