Charleston FarmhouseIn 1916 the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant moved to Charleston with their unconventional household and began to transform the old farmhouse, decorating walls, doors, furniture, textiles and ceramics, and filling the rooms with work by their friends and contemporaries, creating a rural haven for the group of artists, writers and intellectuals known as Bloomsbury.
The walled garden compliments the house with mosaics, sculptures, ponds and vibrant flowerbeds. The shop has a varied collection of ceramics, clothing and accessories, the gallery shows a programme of free exhibitions and the Outer Studio Café provides light refreshment.

Newhaven FortFamilies are promised an exciting and varied day out at this award winning visitor attraction. The fascinating life-size exhibitions and displays help visitors to experience what life was really like for a soldier (and sometimes his family) living in a Victorian Fortress, as well as to understand and learn about the First and Second World Wars.
Once you’ve spent some time exploring, perhaps you might like to simply take some time to enjoy the stunning cliff top views with a fair-trade coffee or hot chocolate, an ice cream, some home-made organic soup, or a piece of scrummy carrot cake from our Searchlight Café.
